Alan Garfunkel,
CEO
Oversees investments for a private fund that invests in public companies and early start-up ventures worldwide, focusing on high-tech and specifically med-tech companies. Alan has been involved in corporate acquisitions and management for over 35 years. He is a graduate of Columbia Law School with an LLM (Master of Laws) degree from New York University School of Law.
Michael Kenney, PhD
CSO
Michael is the key innovator behind MDE’s technology. The company’s cathode and anode designs are primarily based on his Stanford Ph.D. research. His related field research includes hydrogen-based battery designs and photovoltaic materials. His industry experience has been with EEnotech and EnerVenue. He improved nickel-hydrogen batteries for grid-scale applications and the scale of mWh to MWh scale in two years. This advance decreased internal cell resistance by 90%. His contributions to Enervenue’s business development strategies resulted in over $130 million in investments. His research has been published in such journals as Science, and he has been cited over 110 times in addition to being profiled in the Wall Street Journal.
Bruce Santos, MSc/MBA
COO, Lead System Engineer
Bruce has strategized and deployed a myriad of technology projects across the globe, orchestrating the work between and relationships among engineering teams, suppliers, and clients. He is the author of MDE’s business plan as well as the key coordinator of the company’s R&D activities and internal business practices. His multiple-decade span of accomplishments includes innovation, development, and marketing of various technologies, which span the gamut from bio-medical to vehicle mechatronics, environmental marine detection systems, and communications networks.
Caleb Hill, PhD
The Hill Lab
Caleb specializes in electrochemistry through the University of Wyoming. MDE has reached an agreement with The Hill Lab to provide technical assistance and capabilities that would be needed to instrument, test and measure MDE’s electrolyzer performance under various scenarios. This relationship also provides benefits to all parties involved, by diversifying and expanding the team involved with MDE’s technologies, while providing opportunities to scale the team in the future. Dr. Hill serves as a key advisor for MDE. His field of work specializes in nano-electrochemical technologies, and he has been published in numerous journals, including: the Journal of the American Chemical Society, Journal of Physical Chemistry, and iScience.
Don Herres, MSc, PE
Lead Electrical Engineer
Don has over 38 years of experience as a practicing electrical engineer, which includes designing, specifying, and installing electrical equipment and controls for hazardous and corrosive locations. He is licensed as a Professional Engineer (PE) in Maryland, New York, and Pennsylvania and is recognized as a Senior Member with the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). Mr. Herres is a Vietnam era US Army (Signals) veteran.
Lori A. Corsun, JD
General Counsel
Since graduating from Emory University’s School of Law, Lori has practiced corporate law since 1986 and is a senior partner in The Law Office of Alan J. Garfunkel, LLC. Her specialty is the draft and negotiations of complex contracts for both start-ups and mature companies across several industries, and frequently serves as the lead negotiator in mergers, acquisitions, and sales of her clients’ companies.
